Second Edition of Mastering Emerging Market Funds Now Published

Amsterdam — 25 August 2026

SIRIO Capital Partners is pleased to announce the publication of the second edition of Mastering Emerging Market Funds — How Fund Managers Win and What Investors Look For, by Founder and Managing Partner Jeroen Harteveld. Substantially revised and expanded, the practitioner's guide is published by De Boekdrukker in 2026.

Why do some emerging market fund managers thrive while others, equally talented, never make it past first close? The book answers that question through two original frameworks: the KNC Framework, built on the three drivers of success — Knowledge, Network and Capital — and the SIRIO Model, a structural guide balancing Strategy, Investor Relations and Internal Organization. Together they help a manager pinpoint exactly where they stand on the path to becoming a top-tier manager, so that they know what to work on next and can prioritise clearly.

Drawing on real case studies, the book offers actionable guidance on crafting strategies in volatile markets, building meaningful LP relationships, using AI and ESG as competitive advantages, navigating exits and secondary markets, and stepping out of the constant fundraising cycle. New in this edition is a dedicated look at how leading managers are implementing AI across the fund lifecycle and what that means for managers who want to stay ahead, alongside new manager case studies and lessons learned from GPs and LPs. It is written for fund managers and the investors who back them alike — whether a first-time manager, an established GP or an LP evaluating a next commitment.

“The gap has never been talent or opportunity. It is the institutional quality required to turn either into a fund that lasts. This edition puts the frameworks that close that gap into every manager's hands.” — Jeroen Harteveld, Founder and Managing Partner, SIRIO Capital Partners
“Emerging markets demand a discipline and a depth of local understanding that few frameworks capture well. This book addresses that gap with clarity and practical rigor, and is a valuable resource for anyone serious about building and scaling funds in these economies.” — Huib-Jan de Ruijter, Co-Chief Investment Officer, FMO (the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank)
“Jeroen has written the book that emerging market fund managers actually need: rigorous, honest and grounded in real experience. The SIRIO model is a genuinely useful tool for anyone building a fund that has to work as a system, not just a collection of deals. My one provocation to the reader: the model optimises the fund itself brilliantly but the harder question — what the fund ultimately owes to the communities it operates in, and to the public capital that so often underpins it — remains for each manager to answer. Read this book, master it, and then ask that question.” — David Kuijper, CEO, EDFI (Association of European Development Finance Institutions)
